The main body is constructed of marine plywood which is waterproof bonded and has a superior surface finish. The framing, doors, windows, chassis and roof are all pine and the roof is finished outside with canvas which is then painted over for authenticity and extra weatherproofing.
The painted finish is very important to us as it is in this that we try to replicate the wonderfully bright colours and contrasts of original gypsy caravans hence the lining on all banding, cartwheels and the door decoration. A wide range of colours are available from the "Dulux Weathershield" range of paints for the exterior and all interiors are painted with "Cuprinol" Garden shades in country cream.
Inside at the rear of our caravan is a seat which is 4 ft 10 inches wide x 17 inches deep, when pulled forward this extends to 4 ft 10 inches x 30 inches both cushions then lay flat to make a small bed.
The fabrics for our cushions come from Olicana Textiles a family company established in 1973 in west Yorkshire, all are woven from natural yarns and are hardwearing and washable. The gingham we use for the curtains is available in 3mm and 5mm checks in nine colours from MacCulloch & Wallis Ltd in London. Curtains and cushions are included in each caravan.
As to the future we are very excited about our next edition to Rainmac Playhouses, which will be on wheels as is our caravan but will be in the style of a beachhouse more on this next year.
